COVA CCI Upcoming Events
Old Dominion University will be hosting CyberOps’21, our fifth annual CyberOps event! The event is open to interested students and related industry partners in Virginia. This two-day event will be done in a hybrid approach; we will be taking in-person participants on ODU’s campus and virtual participants over Zoom. Day 1 will primarily consist of speaker presentations and networking with industry sponsors. Day 2 will be our Capture The Flag (CTF) competition. ODU’s Cyber Security Student Association (CS2A) and ODU’s Director for the School of Cybersecurity, Dr. Wu, would like to invite you to participate in this event!
This event will be a great opportunity for students to get hands-on cybersecurity experience and network with industry professionals. (Bring your resume!) Registration for the event is completely free! Students from any field are welcome; the event is not limited to STEM majors. You may pick and choose which parts of the conference you would like to attend. For the CTF competition, we encourage students to create teams to compete for a chance at prizes. Teams are allowed to have a maximum of four members. A registration link is provided below:
Day 1 – Keynote speakers and networking: Friday, October 22nd
Day 2 – CTF competition: Saturday, October 23rd
CCI is hosting it first Cyber Camp in July – August 2021. This virtual camp is open to undergraduate students at public or private Virginia college, university, or community college. Registration is due by May 6, 2021 for the May 7-10, 2021 qualifying event. An information session is scheduled for 1 pm on April 28, 2021. Old Dominion University CyberOps ’20 – April 16-18, 2021. Old Dominion University will be hosting CyberOps’20, our fourth annual CyberOps event! The event is primarily targeted towards cybersecurity students and related industry partners in the Coastal Virginia region. This time, we will be hosting the conference virtually as a two-day event. Day 1 will primarily consist of keynote speakers and networking with industry sponsors. Day 2 will be our Capture The Flag (CTF) competition hosted on the Virginia Cyber Range. ODU’s Cyber Security Student Association (CS2A) and ODU’s Director for the School of Cybersecurity, Dr. Wu, would like to invite you to participate in this event!
CCI’s final installment in the Human Side of Cybersecurity webinar series: “A Cyber Concept of Operations for Human-in-the-Loop Resilience” by Ron Boring, a distinguished scientist and department manager for the Human Factors and Reliability Department at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). He has led control room modernization and human risk efforts for a variety of national and international partners and promises the webinar will be more exciting than his name implies.
The COVA CCI Cyber Showcase, March 9, 2021, allowed students interested in cybersecurity to visit multiple colleges and universities from Hampton Roads including Christopher Newport University, Eastern Shore Community College, ECPI University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Paul D. Camp Community College, Regent University, Thomas Nelson Community College, Tidewater Community College, and the College of William and Mary. The CoVA CCI Undergraduate Cybersecurity Research Showcase was held on December 16, 2020. This showcase gave the students selected for this program an opportunity to present their cybersecurity research. You can view the individual research projects on the Undergraduate Research page.
