Phishing, Smishing, and Vishing – Oh My!  Cyber Awareness Training Event

ODU VMASC recently hosted a comprehensive two-hour training course focused on best practices for safeguarding against fraudulent emails, phone calls, text messages, and similar threats. Attendees gained insights into phishing, vishing, and smishing, enhancing their ability to defend against malicious actors and prevent data breaches. Titled “Phishing, Smishing, and Vishing – Oh My,” this session marked the kickoff of a dynamic series comprising five engaging training opportunities aimed at enhancing cyber awareness for small business owners.

The training took place at the ODU Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center (VMASC), and was also accessible virtually. Small businesses were invited to join us for an instructor-led session on Friday, April 24, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM EDT.

ILT Session 2: Ransomware

  • Date: 06/14/24 
ODU VMASC for a two-hour course on best practices to avoid being the victim of ransomware – malware that permanently blocks access to your personal data unless a ransom is paid. Learn effective strategies to protect yourself from these kinds of assaults and how to respond if you do suffer a ransomware attack. “Ransomware: Don’t Fall into the Hacker’s Lair” is the second in a series of five fun and effective training opportunities in cyber awareness for small business owners. 

The training took place at the ODU Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center (VMASC), and was also accessible virtually. Small businesses were invited to join us for an instructor-led session on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM EDT.

ILT Session 3: Cloud Security & Third-Party/Vendor Cybersecurity Risks

ODU VMASC offered a two-hour training on the best cloud security practices to protect your business, data, and reputation. Learn the most effective ways to recognize attacks, guard against them, and deal with them when they occur. “Cloud Security & Third-Party Vendor Cybersecurity Risks” is the third in a series of five fun and effective training opportunities in cyber awareness for small business owners.

The training took place at the ODU Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center (VMASC), and was also accessible virtually. Small businesses were invited to join us for an instructor-led session on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM EDT.

ILT Session 4: Malware 

  • Date: 08/16/24 
ODU VMASC offered a two-hour training on detecting, preventing, and recovering from a malware attack. This training will equip you with the knowledge and tools to identify early signs of a malware infection, implement effective prevention strategies, and develop a robust recovery plan. “Malware” is the fourth in a series of five fun and effective training opportunities in cyber awareness for small business owners.

The training took place at the ODU Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center (VMASC), and was also accessible virtually. Small businesses were invited to join us for an instructor-led session on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM EDT.
