Invited Sessions
Apprenticeship session provides an exemplar of the academy-industry connection with a panel that includes industry professionals and the college/university admins they work with for the program. This session will also discuss how others can build similar programs. The moderator for this panel is Edwin “Leigh” Armistead, President of Peregrine Technical Solutions. The panelist include Nancy Prather-Johnson, Dean of Business, Computer Science, and IT at Tidewater Community College, Ursula Jones, Lands Manager for Goldbelt, Inc. and the first cybersecurity analyst apprentice in the United States, and Patricia “Trish” Morrison, Director, Division of Registered Apprenticeship, Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. Demonstration session allows an expert or panel of experts engage the audience in how to solve a problem of cybersecurity and the impact this has on designing and capitalizing on experiential learning opportunities. Demonstration Session 1 – Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Dashboard Project – will be facilitated by Chon Abraham, Associate Professor, Raymond Mason School of Business, William & Mary. She will be assisted by Joshua “Jay” Lavoie, cybersecurity doctoral student Marymount University and Ernest Park who has over 20 years of experience in technology and security. Demo Session_Airius – CyberCon Presentation
Roundtable on being competitive for internships—a student-focused session where undergraduate and graduate students from various disciplines can hear from academy, non-profit, for-profit, and government representatives on what they look for when selecting students for internships and similar experiential learning opportunities. The moderator for this program is Debbie Murry, Manager, Internships and Research Experience, Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and the panelists include Mr. Henry Bass, founder and president of Automation Creations, Inc., Mr. Bobby Kenner, Chief Executive Officer, Civilian Cyber, and Mr. J.J.
