Title: Research Scientist
Institution: Old Dominion University
Node affiliation: Coastal Virginia
Kazi Aminul Islam’s research interests include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), image processing, and cybersecurity. With the advancement of AI technology, it is used in every part of life, e.g.: social media, emails, finance, autonomous vehicle, internet of things (IoT), and surveillance. It is used for making important decisions to extract important knowledge from data. Although AI has achieved state-of-the-art performances, they can be easily deceived by simple modification of the data. Hackers can also bypass AI-based security systems by using perturbed data or poisoning the model. His research interest lies in making these machine learning models more robust, secured, and protected from these attacks. Specifically, his goal is to prevent adversarial attacks and develop defensive mechanisms.
Kazi Aminul Islam is a research assistant professor/research scientist at the school of cybersecurity at Old Dominion University. He recently completed his Ph.D. degree in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Old Dominion University, USA. Previously, he received his BS degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh, and an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Lamar University, USA.
Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Old Dominion University, August 2021
Masters of Engineering Science in Electrical Engineering, Lamar University, Texas, May 2016
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh, 2010
